DanceCOMP: Competition Dancing in Second Life
2LDance.org and SavoyBallroom.org are proud to announce that Competition Dancing is coming to Second Life.
DanceCOMP brings the fun and excitement of the real world's DanceSPORT and other competitive dancing organizations to the virtual world of Second Life. Our first full prototype Dance 401 Class is live and being tested now (Dec 2020.)
We hope to have a first release by January 1, 2021 and begin live instructor 401 classes and practice sessions at that time.
Dance 401 Class
Savoy provides an open-air dance classroom just down the street from the Ballroom, in Swing Town on Creations Park. Two classes, Dance 101 - Intro to Dance in SL, and Dance 401 - Competition Dancing in SL, are available here.
The Dance 401 Class consists of six minutes of slides with voiceover. This class lands every half hour. In between classes, Practice Comp Tracks are played. Dancers can practice actual dance competition but just using the song tracks of the Dance 101 class. Screen panels help identify which dances to choose for these practice tracks.

Costumes for Competition
Couples competitions in many sports have costumes playing a significant role in the performance. Accenting movements and strengths, disguising weaknesses, and helping with the perception of "flowing" together, are all ways costumes can make a big difference in couples competitions.
In Second Life, DanceCOMP allows couples and individuals to compete. Both male and female passive dance partners are available for solo competitors. For the costume portion, only the competitor's costume is evaluated, not the volunteer partner's.
